Youth preparedness programs increase awareness and understanding of natural hazards to help youth prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster and emergency situations. Prepare With Pedro ?? This program is designed to teach children in kindergarten through grade two and their families how to stay safe during disaster situations and emergencies. Disasters can be scary for young kids, but children are much better at adapting to situations when they know what to expect. Children in this program learn about basic home hazards and emergency situations by working side-by-side with adults to complete an activity book. â?¢ The Pillowcase Project â?? The Pillowcase Project is a preparedness education program for students in grades three through five that teaches children about safety skills, local hazards, and basic coping skills. Red Cross volunteers lead students through a â??learn, practice, shareâ? framework to engage them in disaster preparedness and survival skills. Each child receives a pillowcase to start a preparedness kit.
