United States Department of Agriculture - Crawford County Office - Section 504 Home Repair Program
Provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve or modernize their homes or grants to elderly very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards. Assistance to people with Lead Service Lines that need to be replaced, if they meet income and place eligibility requirements.

Authorized loan and grant purposes include but are not limited to the following: 1. Insulate
2. Provide storm windows
3. Purchase or repair heating systems
4. Repair roofs
5. Repair siding
6. Repair or supply structural supports
7. Provide a convenient and sanitary water supply
8. Provide bathroom facilities
9. Provide handicap accessibility
10. Pay expenses, such as fees for legal and other technical services and reasonable connection fees for water, sewage and electricity or gas.

How much money can I get?
Loan amount not exceed a cumulative total of $20,000.
Maximum life-time grant amount is $7,500
. Loans and grants can be combined for up to $27,500 in assistance

. What are the terms of the loan or grant?
Loans can be repaid over 20 years
. Loan interest rate is fixed at 1%. Full title service is required for loans of $7,500 or more
. Grants have a lifetime limit of $7,500
. Grants must be repaid if the property is sold in less than 3 years
. If applicants can repay part, but not all of the costs, applicants may be offered a loan and grant combination

Eligibility: You must own and occupy the home at the time of your application. The home must be located in a rural area or small town, and may be determined at http://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/welcomeAction.do or calling our office. Family income must be very-low (contact us for income limits). Family net asset limit of $15,000, or $20,000 for elderly households. For grants, must be at least 62 years of age and not able to repay a repair loan.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Intake Procedure: Loans and grants are available year round as long as funding is available. Applications are processed in the order they are received. Contact the Butler Office for additional information and an application package.
Fee Amounts: Full title service is required for loans of $7,500 or more.
