The HealthChoices Program is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's mandatory Medicaid managed care program that is administered by the Department of Public Welfare.

The HealthChoices Program is comprised of two (2) components, a behavioral health benefit and a physical health benefit. Individuals can apply for coverage through the County Assistance Office. Most individuals who would be eligible for the Medical Assistance benefit, will be enrolled in the HealthChoices Program, however there are some exceptions such as those in nursing homes.



If you have the HealthChoices benefit, you may be eligible to receive the following behavioral health services:


  • Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital

    • Psychiatric Outpatient

    • Partial Hospitalization

    • Outpatient D&A Services

    • Family-Based Mental Health Services

    • Targeted Case Management (Intensive Case Management and Resource Coordination)

    • Behavioral Health Rehabilitation for Children and Adolescents (BHRS)

    • Residential Treatment Facility

    • Non-Hospital Drug & Alcohol Residential and Rehabilitation
    • Crisis Intervention Services

    • Multisystemic Therapy (MST)

    • Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC)

    • IFS-Intensive Family Services
    • Crisis Diversionary Program


    • Crisis Intervention
      Drug & Alcohol Services

    • Hospital Based Detox and Rehab

    • Non-Hospital Detox and Rehab

    • Halfway House

    • Intensive Patient

    • Outpatient

    • Methadone Maintenance
