A Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) is a staff person who has used mental health and community services and who is using recovery principles in their own life. A CPS has had to pass an educational program and become certified to provide these services. CPS services can help in the following areas: - Mentoring - Advocacy/ Mediation - Engagement - Provide hope - Teach wellness strategies - Provide education (e.g. agency services, community supports, recovery principles etc.) - Skills building - Link to community supports - Develop natural supports - Goal Planning - Crisis Support - Emotional support
