Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a non-profit, charitable organization independent of, but closely associated with the United States Army. Army Emergency Relief helps US Army soldiers and their dependents, by providing emergency aid, in the form of either a direct grant (a cash gift, not to be repaid) or an interest-free loan, and by giving college scholarships to children of soldiers. Under Army regulations, officers must recommend whether their soldiers deserve aid. Emergency Aid Help with emergency financial needs for:

Loans up to $1000 do not require command recommendation, and there is no limit to the amount of funds Army Emergency Relief may authorize. Officers are responsible for ensuring that their soldiers repay AER loans. Scholarships Army Emergency Relief maintains two scholarship programs – the Spouse Education Assistance Program and the MG James Ursano Scholarship Program for dependent children. Both scholarships provide financial assistance for students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Scholarship applications are accepted from 1 January to 1 May each year for assistance for the following academic year. Scholarship award amounts are not guaranteed and vary each year based on the total number of applicants in each program and budget amount allotted to the scholarship programs. Free Diapers - We can provide you with an emergency dozen of diapers when you find yourself in a pinch. Free Clothing - We offer maternity clothing and children's clothing from infant to 12 month. Used furniture in good condition, along with household items, are provided at no cost to women enrolled in the Center’s programs, as they move back into safe, decent, and affordable housing. The Furniture Bank includes bedding, kitchen sets, dishes, rugs, and appliances as well as furniture, all generously donated by individuals and organizations in the community. A van is available through the Center to pick up donated furniture; however, it is necessary to contact the Furniture Coordinator in advance at 570-342-1342 to schedule an appropriate time for pickup and delivery.

Operation Troop Appreciation - Welcome Home
Welcome Home Program - The “Welcome Home" program fills a gap between the need and the actual support veterans community receives today; prevents homelessness and provides a "hand-up" to veterans who are experiencing hardship. OTA accomplishes these goals through three specific services: 1. Beds - Provides veterans who are entering permanent housing with brand new beds (frame, mattress & box spring). Beds are provided for each veteran and all immediate family members living with them. 2. Welcome Home Kits – Provides veterans with all the household essentials needed to maintain residence, so that they do not have to purchase them out of pocket. These items include brand new: cookware, bakeware, dishes, glassware, silverware, kitchen utensils, bathroom accessories, cleaning and laundry supplies, towels, bedding, and linens, and small appliances. 3. Transportation - OTA is committed to the health and well-being of veterans by providing transportation to attend doctor appointments, physical therapy sessions, counseling, and job interviews. When available, veterans may also receive gently used furniture or other donated items we have been blessed to receive.
