Helps individuals and families with one-time needs and tangible assistance.

Assistance may include help with rent, utilities, prescriptions, and other needs. Help and amounts vary by conference.

Also provides vouchers for clothing, household items, and furniture for use at Saint Vincent de Paul thrift stores.

Sponsors a food pantry in Butler that serves over 500 families every month. Food bank members can expect to receive vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy products, and non-perishable items.

In addition, more than 20 Society Conferences host food pantries and many others provide some form of food assistance.

Reading School District Summer Feeding Program
Offers summer feeding Monday through Thursdays at all elementary schools, plus participating middle schools and high schools, and mobile sites at Jamestown and Oakbrook. Serves breakfast and lunch. Meals are not available on weekends.
Program starts June 20, 2023 and ends July 13, 2023. RKAA City Line continues till August 30, 2023. Oakbrook at Berks Community Pavillion continues to serve till July 27, 2023.

Critical Home Repair Program
Performs home repairs to address critical health and safety issues, accessibility issues for seniors and people with disabilities, and housing code violations. Offers no-interest loans up to $5,000 (higher for roof repairs) to qualifying partners used to repair critical damage to a home or eliminate immediate hazards to health, safety, and/or sanitation. Loans can also be used for home preservation activities.

    Lancaster County Assistance Office - Emergency Shelter Allowance
    Helps a homeless or near homeless family/individual to: stop eviction from your home/apartment or foreclosure of your house; find a long-term place to live; find a short-term place to stay. Provides a one-time payment up to $400 to prevent eviction or $100-$300 to obtain temporary or permanent shelter. There is no monthly rental assistance or subsidy available.

    Need must be the result of an emergency such as eviction, living in hazardous conditions, homeless or near homeless. If more funds are owed than CAO can offer are required to prevent or resolve the emergency, the applicant must have another way to pay the remainder due. The individual or family must have sufficient income to afford future rent. Items are verified with landlord/employer, etc.
