    Services and Resources
    Since 1988, the Center for Schools and Communities has been committed to improving outcomes for children and families through training, technical assistance, program evaluation, research and resource development. The Center's work focuses on prevention and intervention initiatives operated by schools, organizations and agencies serving children, youth and families. Center for Schools and Communities' staff have diverse backgrounds in education, human services, community development and the law, as well as specialized skills and experience in program development and design, evaluation, training and resource development. This combination of education and experience has enabled the Center to provide customized technical assistance to support the development of innovative programs in schools and communities. Services and Resources: Training and Conferences - More than 15,000 people have attended training activities since the Center's inception in 1988. The Center for Schools and Communities coordinates trainings, conferences, teleconferences and in-service programs, primarily in Pennsylvania. Technical Assistance - Technical assistance is provided through on-site visits, telephone support, trainings and conferences, publications, resources, and websites. Every month the Center responds to an average of 2,200 requests for technical assistance on program development, staff training, data reporting and collection, best practices, legislation and resource identification. Evaluation - The Center offers a range of research and evaluation capabilities, including evaluation design, qualitative and quantitative analysis, reporting, and logic modeling. Additionally, the Center has established partnerships with universities and other state and national organizations to augment its evaluation capabilities. Publications - The Center for Schools and Communities develops issue papers and resource and best practice manuals on topics of interest to educators and child and family service professionals. Publications are available upon request by calling the Center or through the Center's web site, www.center-schools.org. Resource Library - The Center for Schools and Communities maintains a lending library of resources that are available to interested organizations and individuals. Materials focus on child, family and community issues, and include items on numerous cultures and ethnic groups, as well as some Spanish language videos and print materials.

Fees for the initial consultation range from $30-$135. The attorney's office will schedule a visit at their office giving the location of office, telephone number, date and time of appointment. The consultation fee is payable to the attorney at time of appointment. If the attorney does further work, beyond the initial consultation, fees for that work would be arranged between the client and attorney. The Lancaster Bar Association does not have information regarding what the attorneys might charge beyond the initial consultation. - Elderly Lawyer Referral Service: For elderly persons who do not qualify for free legal services. Intake through Lancaster County Office of Aging. (See Office of Aging for description.) - Provides information and forms for filing complaints against attorneys with the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of PA. - Arranges arbitration panels locally to handle fee disputes between attorneys and clients. - Upon request, arranges visits to school career day and related events. Hots school students for related events. - Publishes the county's legal periodical, the Lancaster Law Review - Offers a Speaker's Bureau at no charge to any Lancaster organization. Also schedules mock trials in the Courthouse and arranges Courthouse tours for school groups or other interested citizens. - Accredited provider of continuing legal education for attorneys licensed to practice in Pennsylvania.

Career Lecture Series: One to two class periods where a diverse range of professionals (e.g., healthcare, trades, business, sciences, etc.) will visit area high schools and provide an in-depth discussion about their respective careers, the skills and/or educational pathways required to be successful and the potential opportunities for advancement. Students will have the opportunity to interact with these professionals to stimulate conversations about the endless careers out there. Designed for 9th to 12th grade students. Careers in Energy (Gas, Nuclear, Electric, Oil and Green (Solar and Wind)): Working in partnership with Cabot Oil & Gas and regional energy companies, provide a one-day classroom presentation with businesses from these five sectors within the energy field.     Student Internships - Northern Tier Income and Education Consortium
    Offers industry internships to students in participating school districts. Intership offerings include: Dental Internship: The dental internship program has been modeled after NTIEC’s long-standing hospital internship program, whereas students will participate for three hours a day, once a week for approximately five-seven weeks during the fall and spring semesters. This unique opportunity will provide students with an up front and close look at the various jobs available in dentistry. They will observe and shadow dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, lab technicians and the office staff. Intership designed for 10th to 12th grades. Hospital Internship: Students visit area hospitals for two to three hours once a week for six-seven weeks during the fall or spring semester. Students focus on one key department during each visit and participate in a department tour, meet the staff, learn about the work and discuss educational requirements for success in the particular staff specialty. Intership designed for 10th to 12th grades. Youth Apprenticeship: One to two year internships with a worksite mentor and educational coordinator for learning support. This is paid experience. Students earn a grade for this experience and the businesses are eligible for a tax credit. Internship designed for 11th to 12th grades.
