The Altoona Area School District GED Testing Center is an approved GED testing site where the official GED exam is administered. Adults and eligible minors who have not completed their high school education can take the GED to earn their high school equivalency diploma. Those wishing to take the exam at our site must first visit hhtps://ged.com to create an account, register, and pay for the exam.

Eligibility: In Pennsylvania, the minimum age required to take the test is 18 years old.
If a candidate is 16 or 17, they must have an approved age waiver from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), which requires the written request from either an employer, college admissions office, military recruiting office, or director of a state institution indicating a GED is required.

Corry Higher Education Council - Adult Education and Workforce Training
Provides or facilitates the availability of adult education and workforce training opportunities. This includes such programs as: Free GED or HiSET preparation classes for those without a high school diploma; Adult Basic Education Classes for those with a diploma but who want to further their skills in reading, writing and math; basic computer classes such as Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks; workforce skill classes that can lead to entry-level jobs in such areas as welding, machining and blueprint reading; and the opportunity to earn a college degree from Mercyhurst University in Corry, in Business Administration or Liberal Arts or from Northern Pennsylvania Regional College in 5 different programs. The Hi-Ed can provide financial assistance for work-skills related classes for those with a financial need, and also makes available adult college scholarships. The Hi-Ed also hosts Pennsylvania CareerLink services.

    These classes prepare adults for the GED test by reviewing and building skills in English grammar, writing,
    reading, and math. Many students feel more confident taking the actual GED test after this review of skills. A
    GED practice test can also be administered to the students in these classes and afford them an opportunity
    to experience the types of questions that will be asked on the official GED test.

    - Adult Education Services: Pre-GED instruction, GED preparation in Spanish, English as a Second Language Instruction, Workplace English utilizing computerized resources, Computer Literacy designed to learn the basics in a short period of time. Computer classes are available.
