The Tour de Cure is a series of fund-raising cycling events held in more than 80 cities nation-wide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. The Tour de Cure is an American Diabetes Association signature event. This national cycling event raises $100K+ annually in support of the ADA mission and offers three distance options, including a 63-mile, a 40-mile and the less-challenging 15-mile. Cyclists travel rider-friendly routes through the Bucks County countryside.

Recreation program formally known as community habilitation helps people with disabilities have fun and be involved in the community while improving social skills. Our fun activities include: overnight, weekend or week-long excursions to places like mountain resorts, the seashore, campgrounds or theme parks, day-trips to nearby cities, fairs and festivals and tourist attractions, group outings to sporting events, movies, concerts, or dinner theaters, outdoor experiences like camping, boating, hiking, ball games, swimming or miniature golf, and weekly and monthly activity nights at The Arc, including games, dinners, crafts, and theme parties. The Arc of Chester County's Camp Safari is a special place for children between age four to 11 to experience outdoor activities regardless of physical challenges. Teen Camp is open to teens age 12 to 18. Both camps offer: new experiences and fun with peers, activities including fishing, canoeing, swimming, sports, crafts, and nature study, and respite for family members and caregivers. Each camper has a one-on-one teen volunteer supporter in addition to trained camp staff.

Friends' Central School - Trailblazer Day Camp
The Trailblazer Day Camp is designed to accommodate the special interests of children between the ages of 6 and 12. The camper's day begins with 5 periods of activities with their group. Activities include instructional swimming, archery, art, drama, nature, crafts, sports and games. Campers are grouped according to grade and gender and are supervised by head and assistant counselors. Each group has a Home Base that serves as a gathering place to begin and end each camp day.

Friends' Central's twenty-three acre City Avenue campus provides exceptional facilities for a variety of day camp activities, regardless of the weather. Soccer, baseball, lacrosse and hockey fields are available along with the Shimada Athletic Center -- a modern athletic center housing a basketball court, fitness room, wrestling room, spacious locker rooms and an indoor swimming pool. Campers also take advantage of our new state-of-the-art computer lab and campus art studios. Children choosing drama will study and perform in our theater in Shallcross Hall, and campers interested in science may take advantage of the nature trail in the woodland adjacent to the School's campus.

The Tenderfoot Camp provides recreational activities specifically attuned to the interests of 3- to 6-year-old children. The program focuses on social development, independence, the development of new friendships and the strengthening of self-esteem. As children grow, they are encouraged by the supportive staff to broaden their experiences and see what the world around them has to offer. Emphasis is placed on cooperation rather than competition. Children are placed in coeducational groups by age.

    Patriots Cove is a native brook trout sanctuary located in the mountains of North Eastern Pennsylvania, and was created by a retired Army Sergeant First Class, his dedicated wife and daughter.     Semillas del Futuro (Seeds of the Future) serves 30 high-school youth in the summer. Youth receive a stipend through the Philadelphia Youth Network and engage in a variety of art forms- from painting and drawing to sculpture to film making - creating artwork through a social-justice lens. They also spend time with the Urban Garden Manager, learning about urban agriculture, harvesting, and cooking nutritious meals (“Garden Explorations”).

    Raíces de Cambio (Roots of Change) is an apprenticeship for an additional 4-6 youth each semester and 8 during the summer. Apprentices work alongside our gardens staff to plant, grow, harvest, and sell foods and herbs in our urban gardens. Youth develop leadership skills by creating lesson plans for weekly classes delivered by Raíces de Cambio youth to Semillas del Futuro youth.

    Swim Lessons (Ages 3 months - 14 years of age)
    Waterbabies 1: (3- 18 months) - Child will learn water adjustment skills, safety and more while singing songs and playing with water toys. Great for those new to the water, this class is designed to help your child feel comfortable in the water at an early age. One parent/ adult must be in the water with the swimmer at all times.

    Waterbabies 2: (12 months- 3 yrs old) - Children will be working to gain independence in the water as well as beginning to learn the skills needed to transition to preschool swim lessons. The will become acclimated to the sights and sounds of the pool and are introduced to kicking, blowing bubbles, floating and general water movement through the use of songs and toys. One parent/ adult must be in the water with the swimmer.

    Pike: (3-5 yrs old) - For the child who may be apprehensive in the water as well as the beginner swimmer who is comfortable, but has not yet mastered the Pike skills. This class introduces the child to the basic skills such as kicking, paddling and blowing bubbles. Children will learn gradually to do these skills independently before moving to Eel. Swimmers use a personal flotation device, provided by the YMCA.

    Eel: (3-5 yrs. old) - For the preschool swimmer who is well adjusted to the water and eager to learn more! Swimmers continue to build upon Pike skills, are introduced to rhythmic breathing, learning to float independently for longer periods and swim longer distances with their face in the water and no floatation device. PRE- REQ: Pass pike skills or be able to swim the width of the pool on their front and back with a flotation device.

    Ray: (4-5 yrs. old) - Swimmers are ready to begin developing endurance as well as improving stroke skills. Ray swimmers will swim in the large pool with little to no bubble and are introduced to rotary breathing. PRE-REQ: Pass Eel or be able to swim the width of the small pool on their front and back without a flotation device.

    Starfish: (4-5 years old) - This level is for the swimmer who has passed Ray but is not old enough to move on to Polliwog or Guppy. Instructor will work on improving Ray skills along with treading, breaststroke & dolphin kick and water safety.

    Polliwog
: (6-14 yrs. old)- For the child who may be apprehensive in the water as well as the swimmer who is comfortable in the water but has not yet mastered rhythmic breathing. The class teaches skills such as proper kicking, front and back crawl, putting their face in the water and treading.

    Guppy: (6-14 yrs old) - For the school aged swimmer who is comfortable in the water and ready to learn rotary breathing. They will building endurance swimming on their front and back, learn to swim breaststroke and be introduced to dolphin kick. PRE-REQ: Pass Polliwog skills or swim 25 yards on front with rhythmic breathing and 25 yards alternate & symmetrical backstrokes.

    Minnow: (6- 14 years old) - Swimmers continue to build endurance and distance while improving breathing and stroke skills. Children will continue to work on their front crawl, backstrokes and breaststroke and while learning the basics of butterfly kick, sidestroke and flip turns. PRE- REQ: Pass Guppy skills or swim 25 yards front crawl with rotary breathing, 25 yards backstroke and 25 yards breaststroke.

    Fish: (6-14 years old) - This level will focus on perfecting the swimmers techniques in all strokes and further increase their speed and endurance. The will continue learning butterfly, sidestroke and flip turns off the wall during continuous swimming as well as racing dives. Successful completion of Minnow level required.
