    Serves at-risk males and females, ages 13-20 years, who are actively involved with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF). Youth are court ordered to the shelter until a more permanent living arrangement is secured. The focus is on safety, comprehensive assessment, education, service planning and family reunification. Youth have access to mental health, substance abuse, medical services and in most cases attend their schools of origin. Counselors work in partnership with youth, families, case workers and the court system.

    The Bucks County Shelter utilizes an individualized, brief counseling and crisis intervention model within a Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework. Services are provided by a culturally competent and diverse group of counselors and therapists. Services include case management, individual, family and group counseling, life skills education, adventure-based experiential education and recreational activities, and therapeutic follow-up and aftercare services. Nearly 100% of the youth report that they felt safe while living at VYH, staff were supportive and helpful, and there was a genuine investment in the young people served. Provides brief counseling crisis intervention, including case management. Teen parent/baby sheltering on a case by case basis. Youth ages 18-21 years old accepted if also in OCY (office of children and youth).
