Adult Services specializes in understanding the unique needs of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to teach and support adults with autism to successfully function in their daily lives and in the community. we offer the following services under the State of Pennsylvania’s Adult Autism Waiver Assistance Program: - Community Inclusion: We teach the skills needed for activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and eating, or doing housework, managing money, and cooking. We also help individuals learn to function in the community, which may include using public transportation, shopping, participating in a hobby, or attending an event. - Job Finding/Assessment, Supported Employment: We review the individual’s work history, interests, and skills to determine what types of jobs and/or training will be best-suited for the person. Once s/he has secured employment, we offer additional assistance at the job location. - Behavior Support: We create a support plan for the individual and those who are in regular contact with him/her to address disruptive and destructive behaviors. We help the individual become more independent and provide assistance when s/he is in crisis. - Respite (In Home): We provide the unpaid caregiver of an individual with autism a short break from caretaking duties when the caregiver is unable to do so because of unusual circumstances. This support is provided in the individual’s home.

Provide Assistive Technology Services as an Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC). Services include: Public Awareness, Training and Technical Assistance, Acquisition of Assistive Technology Services, Equipment Reutilization, Device Demonstrations, Assistance with Funding Resources, lending Library, and Free Phone Program. A New Start, The in-house reuse program, provides gently used medical equipment and assistive technology devices to individuals who are unable to obtain what they need through ordinary channels. Their goal is to reutilize home medical equipment and other devices that are sitting around unused, and give the equipment to someone in need.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living of North Central PA, offers:
  • Resources/training related to language translation, housing, income benefits, mobility/transportation, education, communication, assistive technology, advocacy, budgeting, household management, mentoring, and socialization/recreation geared toward persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Sign Language Instruction
  • Assistance with obtaining an Interpreter/Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART)
  • Instruction of the Pennsylvania Driver’s Manual
  • Public awareness/sensitivity training regarding persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Information about Videophones/Video Relay Interpreting Services and resources on how to go about getting a videophone
  • Assistance with getting equipment via the TDDP such as a TTY, CapTel, amplified telephone, etc.

Roads to Freedom - Adult Autism Waiver
A Medical Assistance program that provides home and community-based services specifically designed to help adults with an autism spectrum disorder participate in their communities in the way they want to. Services include community inclusion, which includes things that will help a person improve his or her activities of daily living, and depends on an Individual Support Plan; job assessment and finding; supported employment, which provides ongoing help with job retention; temporary crisis service, which provides additional staff to help a participant after a crisis; and transitional work services, which provides job opportunities in which the participant is working alongside other people with disabilities until they are ready to transition to jobs in the community with mostly non-disabled co-workers.
