    LOGAN Hope
LOGAN Hope - After School Programs
The purpose of LOGAN Hope's Afterschool Program is to assist more children and youth in improving their grades and behavioral development through tutoring, Christian mentoring, and teaching students about God through His word, worship songs, life-skill lessons, games, and trips. To accomplish these purposes, we adopted a Christian afterschool curriculum called Kidtrek. Kidtrek focuses on mentoring at-risk kids toward a Christ-centered hope-filled future. In the long run, we hope the Afterschool program will attract more Cambodian students from the public schools as a broader outreach to the community.

    Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia
Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia - Before and After School Child Care Programs
For 18 years, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries has been providing children in the Tioga community with a safe, structured and caring environment rich with opportunities to help them grow, thrive, and reach their greatest potential. This allows their parents to work as well as to attend the classes provided that will enhance their employment status. The children that attend our programs are ages 4 through 12 years, African American, and from low-income families typically headed by single mothers. We offer homework, tutoring and enrichment services to the families in our neighborhood. Our goal is to create a positive and enthusiastic attitude toward learning by offering computer programs, educational field trips, and arts and craft activities that support the present school curriculum. The Program is able to encourage the development of fundamental learning skills that so many low- income, urban children have not been exposed to in school or in their homes. Children’s progress and program quality are systematically monitored with validated assessment tools. Teachers and Director together document program strengths, identify areas for improvement, and develop an appropriate professional development plan. Children are regularly observed to record their needs and interests, and teachers write daily lesson plans to support the development of individual children and the class as a whole. Systematic training is built around a consistent curriculum model.

Methodist Services For Children and Families
Methodist Services For Children and Families - Beacon Program
Methodist Services for Children and Families (MSCF) Beacon Community Center, located at the John B. Stetson Middle School in Kensington, serves more than 200 children in After School and Family Preservation programs. The Beacon is a bustling community center that offers customized programs for children and their families. Designed to provide fun, educational, creative and athletic activities after school, into the evening and on the weekend when children are most likely to be left on their own. A minimal fee is charged for certain programs at the Beacon, but programs are open to all members of the community. The After School Program is offered to students from all surrounding elementary and middle schools. The students receive homework assistance and are offered the opportunity to participate in various enrichment programs consisting of computer learning, sports, arts and crafts, dance, self-esteem workshops and much more throughout the year. The children participate in a monthly ceremony that acknowledges perfect attendance, homework heroes, student of the month, and birthdays, as a means of encouraging the students to perform to the best of their abilities. The students receive an award and prize for their efforts and accomplishments. We offer a Youth Council program for students ages 14 - 21. The Youth Council members develop leadership skills by utilizing their strengths and communication skills. By engaging in classroom activities, workshops, community service, event planning, fundraising and other activities, meant to engage and attract members of the community, as well as other organizations, students participate in and help the entire community. The Family Preservation evening program provides a safe haven and support for teens and older youth in the community. This program offers basketball, computer learning, chess club, dance, drama and much more. Other programs consist of GED and ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Monthly parent meetings offer a forum for parents to share concerns, ideas and strategies and build stronger relationships with their children, school officials and each other. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and become a part of their children’s educational growth at the Beacon. During the summer, the Beacon hosts a Summer Camp for members of the community which offers a wide range of programs. The Beacon Program offers open enrollment. For more information on the programs offered at the Stetson Beacon, please call Marisell Bruno at 215-291-5650 or mbruno@methodistservices.org.
