Active Aging - Farmer's Market Nutrition Voucher
Checks must be redeemed by November 30, 2020. Checks can only be redeemed at participating farmer's markets. Checks cannot be used in a grocery store. Checks must be redeemed in full; no change can be given. The only time another person can pick up checks for the recipient is if the recipient has completed the required proxy form. Recipient's proof of age and residence must accompany proxy form. Checks can only be received and used by the eligible senior. Only fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania or purchased by the participating farmer's market directly from a farmer in a neighboring state can be purchased with the checks. Checks must not be signed or endorsed prior to redeeming at participating farmer's markets.

Through March 19, about 3,300 PA drives have been cancelled resulting in 9,300 fewer blood donations in PA - We understand why people may be hesitant to come out for a blood drive, but want to reassure the public that we are taking additional precautions to ensure the safety of our donors and staff: - We are checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy. - We have hand sanitizer for use before entering the drive, as well as throughout the donation process. - We are spacing beds, where possible, to follow social distancing practices between blood donors

2020 distribution of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers this year will be done completely by mail.. Application available on agency website: https://www.luzernecounty.org/964/2020-Senior-Farmers-Market-Nutrition-Pro Applications also available at local legislature’s offices Application listed above must be completely filled out, signed by the eligible participant and then mailed or email to our agency. The distribution by mail will be done from June through September 30, 2020----applications received after the deadline date of Wednesday, September 30th will not be accepted. This year two participants can be included on one application as long as they live at the same address. EACH participant must complete their part of the application and BOTH signatures must be on the application, or it will not be processed. Proxy forms WILL NOT be required this year---you will be allowed to have someone pick up your fruits and vegetables in your place with the vouchers. It is important that your name and address are printed clearly and legibly in order to expedite the process of sending out the vouchers. Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a non-profit, charitable organization independent of, but closely associated with the United States Army. Army Emergency Relief helps US Army soldiers and their dependents, by providing emergency aid, in the form of either a direct grant (a cash gift, not to be repaid) or an interest-free loan, and by giving college scholarships to children of soldiers. Loans up to $1000 do not require command recommendation, and there is no limit to the amount of funds Army Emergency Relief may authorize. Officers are responsible for ensuring that their soldiers repay AER loans. Scholarships Army Emergency Relief maintains two scholarship programs – the Spouse Education Assistance Program and the MG James Ursano Scholarship Program for dependent children. Both scholarships provide financial assistance for students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Scholarship applications are accepted from 1 January to 1 May each year for assistance for the following academic year. Scholarship award amounts are not guaranteed and vary each year based on the total number of applicants in each program and budget amount allotted to the scholarship programs.     Provides help to foreign-born individuals and families coming through the federal government’s resettlement program find housing and employment and help connect them to local services and benefits. JFCS staff secures housing and provides furniture, food and clothing. Provides long term assistance, including but not limited to airport pick-up, referrals to human services benefits, set-up of medical appointments, paperwork, ESL class referrals, peer group guidance and transportation issues. Helps clients find work, navigate American workforce expectations and gain skills. We work with you to evaluate your job skills, interests and past work experience in order to identify areas of opportunity that might be a good match for you. Our employment counselors have built relationships with local employers that hire newcomers. We’ll provide translators if necessary, transportation to interviews, resume assistance and more. Some refugees may be connected to the JFCS Career Development Center for further training. We provide a number of pre- and post-employment support services to help ensure your success in the workplace.

    2020 Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers The Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) will be offered again this year to eligible Monroe County Seniors. The SFMNP provides $24.00 in vouchers free to eligible older adults (an increase of $4 per person). The purpose is to encourage older consumers to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables by local growers who make their produce available at farmer’s markets. Older adults residing in Monroe County who are 60 years of age or older who meet the income guidelines, $23,606 for 1 person in the household; or $31,894 for 2 people in the household, are eligible to participate in the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program. You may only receive the vouchers once per season. The vouchers will be given on a first come basis. This year due to the social distancing protocols we will have the forms available in this issue of the newsletter, on the Monroe County website www.monroecountypa.gov under the County Departments/ Area Agency of Aging and on Facebook. Please complete the form on page 3 and either email it to monroeaging@monroecountypa.gov or mail it into the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging at 724 Phillips St., Suite 102 Stroudsburg PA 18360.     2020 Farmers Market Nutrition Program Vouchers The Northumberland County Board of Commissioners, in cooperation with the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, is pleased to announce the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, is offering eligible older adults who reside in Northumberland County an opportunity to obtain four (4) vouchers valued at $6.00 each to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from participating farm markets. Due to COVID-19, vouchers will be distributed via USPS regular mail only. Vouchers will not be available at the Adult Community Centers this year. Applications for the vouchers can be obtained on the agency’s Facebook page (Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging), the agency’s website (www.ncaging.org), requesting an application via the agency’s email (info@ncaging.org), or by contacting the agency at 570-495-2395.     The Wayne County Area Agency on Aging plans to operate the Senior Farmers Market Voucher Program in 2020, with some changes to the way the vouchers are made available due to the COVID-19 conditions. Each year, the PA Department of Agriculture provides vouchers that can be redeemed for fresh fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania. Each eligible recipient receives four $6 checks to redeem at qualified farmers’ markets or roadside stands. To be eligible individuals must be a Wayne County resident, be 60 years or older by Dec. 31 and meet household income guidelines, which for 2020 are $23,606 for one person and $31,894 for two people. Applications need to be completed, including signature and date of birth, and sent to the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging, 323 Tenth Street, Honesdale 18431. Applications will be processed and vouchers will be mailed on or about July 1. Applications are available online at - https://www.waynecountypa.gov/ or by calling the Aging Office at 570-253-4262 to request an application to be mailed.
