The Center offers over 130 preventive health education programs offered in four different platforms: outreach; on campus in one of our five dynamic and interacting teaching theaters; via webcast; and online learning. The Center's exceptionally qualified health educators present preventive health programs to both children and adults covering subjects such as nutrition and fitness, substance abuse, preventive bullying programs and mental health. Byrnes Health Education Center programs are science based and are mapped to National and State education standards. Programs are continually reviewed by a Curriculum Committee that is comprised of health and education experts. As part of Guiding Hearts with Hope holistic community healing approach, the purpose for this program is to inspire growth and transformative healing in individuals and families who are facing difficult life challenges. Through wisdom sharing, experiential learning and community partnership building, we support others in finding balance and conscious well-being to continue the growth and healing. A drum circle itself is a metaphor for community with individuals of many beliefs and backgrounds coming together to share in a vision of healing and growth. There is a need for holistic, alternative resources and education to improve quality of life. There is also a need for community and a sense of belonging. Community inspired programs using holistic approaches of support such as group drumming, breathing and meditation can bring a sense of connection that inspire healing and hope.
