Area Agencies on Aging provides local services, act as advocates, and generally assist older
citizens to remain active in their communities. They operate under guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
Services include:
- Advocacy - Support and representation, administratively and legislatively, for the needs of older adults as a group or individually.
- PA MEDI - assistance with health insurance benefit concerns, appeals, benefit applications.
- Employment Services - subsidized employment for training purposes. Available to low income persons age 55 and older.
- Information and Referral - answers to questions on the availability of services and programs for older adults.
- Legal Services - provided in non-fee generating cases via a contract with North Penn Legal Services, Inc.
- Nursing Home Transition - Information about availability of long term care in a variety of settings - in the home, or in assisted living, and planning/coordination in making a move to an alternate setting including arranging for necessary services, for current residents of nursing homes.
- Ombudsman - receives, investigates and assists in resolving complaints about quality of long term care.

Provides diapers, clothing, hygiene, and food. Providing beds and bedding to children is also a major priority. Also assist with transportation for medical reasons.

Transportation fares per one-way trip are based on ride sponsorships and a zone-based, miles-driven fare structure. Refer to the fares and sponsorship information for more information. Consumers must reserve their ride before noon of the preceding business day. Some consumers may be eligible for enrollment in transportation sponsoring programs, which make fares reasonable.

Provides free, confidential assistance for individuals seeking substance use or gambling treatment and recovery services. In addition to one-on-one navigation, the Addiction Resource Center also provides free brochures, educational materials, and speaking engagements for individuals and community organizations throughout Chester County.

Provides limited financial aid (as funding is available) for partial rental assistance, first months rent and water assistance in emergency situations on a case by case basis. Rent can not be more than one month behind. Water can not have a shut off notice or owe more that $500. Does not cover the full amount owed. One time payment.

The York County Special Needs Registry is a free, confidential, and voluntary program offered by the Office of Emergency Management to aide local municipalities in identifying those residents in their communities who may need additional assistance during an emergency or disaster, as required by state law. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals:

with mobility difficulties

• with intellectual or developmental disabilities
  
• with sight or hearing impairments
  
• with special medical equipment
  
• without a reliable or consistent form of transportation
  
• without access to emergency information via TV, radio, internet
  
  Any information provided is collected into a spreadsheet and then forwarded on to municipal Emergency Management Agencies to assist in emergency planning and response efforts. The Registry can be used for more than just evacuation purposes -- the information it provides is also helpful in any emergency situation (fire, chemical spill, police incident, etc).
