    Universal Companies
    Universal Housing Counseling Program (UHCP)
Universal Companies is community-based and non-profit organization and congruent with its fundamental mission, it created the Universal Housing Counseling Program (UHCP) to provide direct and free of charge services to the low and moderate income people. Since its inception, UHCP has been providing concrete and helpful services to first-time home buyers, existing home owners, tenants and renters in the areas of housing, finance, credit, budgeting and savings.

UHCP is equipped with highly professional, certified, knowledgeable and competent counselors and is capable of providing high-quality services. Program participants are encouraged to become home owners, be financially smart, maintain their homes, avoid foreclosure, own decent credit scores, be budget oriented and be wealth builders.

UHCP holds group and individual sessions that focus on housing consumer education, especially for the first time home buyer issues, credit repair and improvement, post –purchase counseling, budgeting, and saving plans. Through this program, we have assisted hundreds of existing home owners to avoid foreclosure and potential homeowners to understand the nature of predatory lending practices. The goal of UHCP workshops is to empower participants with knowledge and resources.

UHCP provides mortgage loan counseling and helps clients obtain affordable mortgages through our PHFA-approved lending partnership. We also assist clients with receiving down payment and closing cost loans, grants and assistance.

UHCP understands the home-buying process may seem overwhelming and intimidating too many low- and moderate income people and because of this inherent problem, UHCP tries to ease the difficulty through direct and face-to-face counseling from the counseling starting point to the finality of home buying.

UHCP counselors make the home buying process more accessible to the first time home buyers. Instead of having to coldly approach mortgage lenders, potential home buyers can meet our counselors in our office to go through the pre-qualification process. Participants with credit problems learn ways to resolve them. Participants that do not qualify for a mortgage right away are assisted to become qualified through our structured, consistent, and educational counseling.
