If the client decides to pursue a Protection From Abuse Order (PFA), the advocate will assist the client in filing a petition, setting the hearing date, acquiring the judge's signature on a temporary order. In addition, advocates often accompany clients to other court proceedings and appointments and act as the link between the client and the criminal justice system. One advocate currently works out of a satellite location at the courthouse and the others have offices at this location. **COVID-19 UPDATES**: Office is doing telephone counseling only until further notice. No in person appointments or walk ins available. Legal Advocacy Program provides information, referrals and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who choose to seek justice through the legal system. The advocate does not give legal advice, but shares information about the law including what legal options are available, and how to assess legal recourse. Program participants choose what, if any legal action they wish to take. The advocate does not recommend a particular direction, but will support whatever decision is made. Counselor/Advocates are available to accompany a victim of domestic or sexual violence to the hospital for an examination and/or treatment. At the hospital, rights and services are explained to the victim, and the counselor/advocate can answer their questions.

Its goals are to work toward the prevention and elimination of domestic violence; increase public awareness of domestic violence through education in order to change behavior and attitudes; and to provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of domestic violence policy. Through 6 committees, the task force focuses on specific areas before formulating a unified community response. The committees are clergy, education/media, human service providers, law enforcement/judicial, legislative, and health care providers.
