Court Advocates are trained to be helpful to child and adult sexual abuse and sexual assault survivors at all stages of the court process. The WOAR Court Advocates provide court accompaniment, emotional support, legal information and advocacy.

In some cases, family members of the victim/witness may be sequestered (removed from the courtroom) during the testimony of the victim/witness.

The WOAR Court Advocates and the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) work together to reassure and support the child, teen, or adult survivor. Also, WOAR Court Advocates can assist with counseling referrals.

Child/Adolescent Counseling offers a team of counselors that work with children and adolescents who are dealing with relationship difficulties, sexual problems, parent-child conflicts, school problems, bereavement, and substance abuse.

For adults, trained advocates provide supportive listening and short-term counseling to help explore and consider options. They also provide information and referrals to other agencies where more help is available. Child care is provided while parents are learning to help themselves. Counseling is also available for victims under 18 whose lives have been affected by sexual assault and/or violence in the home. There are support groups and special activities for younger children.

The Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Center provides a Volunteer Advocate Training for individuals interested in becoming hotline volunteers.

Provides individual and family therapy for sexual abuse victims up to age 17. Group therapy is available for the 3-10 age group. Parent counseling is mandatory if the child is in family therapy. Evaluations and diagnosis is also available.

Family Based Services provides 32 weeks of intensive community and home-based therapy and support for children and adolescents (up to age 21) with emotional and behavioral issues and their families. The District Attorney's office acts as a prosecuting service for the State. Attorneys prosecute persons charged with crimes by police and offer legal counsel to police departments only, not to private persons.

The District Attorney serves on the Prison Board and chairs the Victim/Witness Policy Board. There are 28 Assistant District Attorneys with special areas of concentration, such as sexual assault, white collar crime, child abuse and domestic violence.

In cooperation with state and local police, the District Attorney's Office administers the Lancaster County Drug Enforcement Task Force. The Task Force accepts and investigates reports of drug sales or trafficking through the use of a 24-hour toll-free hotline.

The District Attorney's Office formed the Child Abuse Cadre to train representatives from area police departments to become specialists in investigating child abuse cases.
