Provides inpatient, short term psychiatric treatment for older adults. Works closely with the patient, family and health care providers to help patients with grief and loneliness; age-related changes in function and thinking; dementia-related issues; depression and anxiety; marital,family, and social problems; Schizophrenia and other psychoses.

Offers a continuum of inpatient psychiatric care across the life span including: a designated Crisis Response Center (CRC) providing 24/7 assessments; specially-designed inpatient units for adolescents, adults, and older adults (with and without co-occurring substance use issues); and a private supportive residential program for adults and older adults.

Provides short-term acute inpatient treatment and extended acute care treatment through inpatient service. Offers psychiatric evaluation and treatment, as well as counseling and therapy, through outpatient services. This includes a partial hospitalization program and several specific outpatient psychiatric programs. Provides Women’s Behavioral Health Services which helps women with problems during and immediately after pregnancy, as well as other emotional and/or psychological issues. Senior Behavioral Health Services helps older adults with emotional, transitional and/or psychological problems. The Crisis Intervention Service staff can assist individuals and professional service agencies in Cumberland and Perry counties by assessing and stabilizing people in crisis situations, such as those with suicidal or homicidal thoughts, gestures and attempts; psychotic persons; and those showing signs of serious self-neglect. Crisis Intervention also offers a Mobile Crisis Intervention Service. This service can provide face-to-face contact with an individual who may be unwilling or unable to visit a crisis office. The Maternal Assistance Program provides help for pregnant women and new mothers addicted to drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco who live in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon and Perry counties.

Inpatient acute psychiatric care

Older adult inpatient treatment is a 10-bed, specialized inpatient unit designed to meet the unique needs of persons over the age of 60. It offers a safe and specialized service that includes daily appointments with the Psychiatrist, structured programming, and 24 hour per day Registered Nursing observation and care. Our inpatient unit provides intensive medical-psychiatric treatment and medication stabilization in a safe environment. Inpatient treatment is often the best option for older adults suffering from severe anxiety, depression, agitation, paranoia, fearfulness or hallucinations.

At Summit Behavioral Health, we're committed to providing individualized treatment for patients in crisis in safe, supportive environment at the Chambersburg Hospital. We also provide short-term care for patients with a primary behavioral health diagnosis (mental health) who are not responsive to outpatient treatment.
