Allentown Rescue Mission
Emergency Shelter
52 emergency shelter beds for adult men. Provides opportunities to enter long-term programs. Also provides free meals, personal care items, clothing, shower facilities, laundry, phone and computer services for case management. All men wishing to enter the shelter are screened for any outstanding warrants with the police.

All shelter guests are required to leave the premises from 8:00am to 4:30pm and are instructed to utilized that time to end their homelessness. They have a 30 day up or out policy that requires that the guest obtain a job within 30 days to get extensions. Client can also go up into the transformation programs where they can receive a greater level of counseling, teaching, case management and a transitional job on their clean team workforce.

The IDEAL Transition Program (Individual Development Through Experience, Assessment and Learning) assists blind and visually impaired students to make the transition from the high school environment to the complex opportunities and risks of adult living, college life, or the workplace. IDEAL is a summer residential program which offers full days of classes and other activities in group and individual settings. Participants may choose a college oriented or employment directed curriculum. The IDEAL staff conducts an assessment of each studentâs abilities, skills, and interests, and designs an individualized program for the student to strengthen existing skills and acquire necessary new proficiencies.

Extended Stay Program

Average Length of Stay: 21 to 35+ Days
Designed for individuals with chronic substance abuse and Dual Diagnosis issues who are in need of long-term treatment. Patients who may have been unsuccessful in past treatment and recovery attempts, with numerous relapses, and whose addiction has significantly impacted their ability to live the productive lives they want for themselves. Stabilizing a patientâs mental and physical health, educating them on their condition, and beginning the healing process is the thrust of the Extended Stay Program.

Focus: Problem identification and building a foundation for learning and changing based on the Stages of Change Model and facilitated through Motivation Interviewing, CBT and many other proven techniques.
