VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Suicide Prevention Program serves to facilitate implementation of suicide prevention strategies throughout VAPHS with the goal of raising awareness and prevention efforts throughout the system as guided by VA Central Office (VACO).

The Suicide Prevention Team consists of social workers (a coordinator and case manager), who strive to achieve this goal through a variety of means. Outreach activities that provide education to veterans, families, and providers both inside VAPHS and I the surrounding community are completed monthly by the team to increase awareness about suicide risk factors and warning signs, as well as available treatment options to those in need. The team provides psychoeducatioanl groups to assist VAPHS veterans.

Program staff works collaboratively with VA Crisis Line and VA Homeless Hotline to assist in providing follow up to crisis calls, and in many cases, assist with accessing care. Suicide Prevention is also tasked with providing regular case man
