The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh’s STEM Impact Initiative is a systems-building effort to build enthusiasm and capacity for informal STEM education in the Greater Pittsburgh community. This initiative consists of a consortium of out-of-school-time (OST) providers dedicated to providing informal science, technology, engineering and math education to underrepresented children and youth and professional development opportunities for participating out-of-school-time service providers throughout Allegheny County.

STEM Stars is a collaborative project of the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh and Carnegie Science Center. STEM Stars provides reading; math and science remediation and enrichment; hands-on project-based STEM activities; life skills development; mentoring; pre-college experiences; and STEM career exploration.The purpose of STEM Stars is to improve academic achievement and increase interest in, and awareness of, STEM topics and careers among economically disadvantaged girls; and decrease opportunity gaps that negatively impact these girls’ successful matriculation through the STEM education pipeline and into STEM careers. STEM Stars addresses barriers associated with middle school girls’ engagement in STEM: inadequate access, opportunity, academic preparation, and attitudinal barriers that limit success and persistence in STEM.

Provides rapid-rehousing, supportive housing programs for homeless, low-income individuals and their children. All supportive housing referrals must go through Allegheny Link. YW Homes Inc. is a wholly owned, non-profit subsidiary of YWCA Greater Pittsburgh whose purpose is to create affordable housing choices for low-income families in those communities that do not provide such options.
