Maintains civil records for the court and is responsible for the creation, maintenance and certification of matters pending or determined by the court, including certain reporting and collection duties to state agencies. Processes passport applications and files records pertaining to divorce decrees. Operates as the filing office for the Civil Division of the Court of Common Pleas.

Provides application for passports. Divorce Complaints are filed with the Prothonotary. The Prothonotary's Office does not have forms. If you want to file the action without an attorney, forms and instructions are available for purchase in the Self-Help Center located in the Dauphin County Law Library.

The Prothonotary's office files all civil documents, divorces, custody, protection from abuse (PFA) and judgements.

Ensures that all court records and applicable documents are indexed, docketed, processed, recorded, and microfilmed on a timely basis in compliance with state requirements and guidelines. Legal documents processed include appeals, transcripts, assighments, petitions and injunctions, arraignments, criminal searches, divorce complaints, change of name petitions, writs and executions, bail processing, judgments and liens, criminal final bills of costs, custody and support, building agreements, protection from abuse petitions, applications and renewals of applications, juvenile/dependency matters, private detective licenses.
They also process passport aplications and aid the public with genealogical research and retrieval of documents from the office archives.
