Responsible for fire fighting and rescue within the City of Lancaster; Supervision of home inspection programs and investigation of hazardous conditions; Permits and inspections of buildings, equipment and systems. Also provides residential smoke detector program for homeowners.

The Bureau of Fire serves the City of Williamsport, the county seat for Lycoming County. One of its divisions is Operations and Prevention. Its services include, but are not limited to: fire suppression, vehicle rescue, water rescue, technical rescue, emergency medical quick response, fire inspections, fire investigations, and emergency management administration.
In 2004 the Bureau was given the responsibility of administering emergency management for the City. The Bureau is responsible for the implementation of the National Incident Management System for the City, maintaining the City emergency operations plan, two emergency operations centers, six early warning sirens, and the training of all emergency operations center personnel.

Provides response to situations that threaten the safety and health of residents due to fire, hazardous conditions, environmental emergencies, medical emergencies, or similar events. Enforces the International Fire Code and the City of York Property Maintenance Code. Also offers free smoke detectors and batteries.

Provides fire and ems protection.

Provides fire prevention programs, firefighter training programs, and fire safety education to the community.

Serves all emergency needs, including motor vehicle accidents, structure fires, EMS responses, etc.

Provides emergency services and 911 communications. Dispatches emergency fire, police, and ambulance. Follow up on suspicious activities and immediate response such as suspicious packages, persons engaged in suspicious activity near critical infrastructure, key assets, transportation, and more.
