    Wallace-Cross Mill is a restored 1826 water-powered grist mill located near Cross Roads, East Hopewell Township. Wallace-Cross Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Harry Cross, the last operator of the mill presented the building to York County in 1979.

    Native Lands is a 187-acre property of which 93 acres are designated as park land with a 6' wide mowed trail traversing the property from north to south. The mowed trail serves the park users in accessing the property from three different trailheads. The trail is named the Native Lands Heritage Trail.

    The trail also served for the relocation of the Mason-Dixon Trail from the Long Level Road onto the County's property from Bank Hill Road to Klines Run Park and coincides with the Native Lands Heritage Trail.

    Attention Rail Trail users, the adjoining railroad tracks are now active. The Steam into History excursion train is using the railroad tracks along the Rail Trail. (From New Freedom to Hanover Junction Train Station). Expect to see a train at any time while enjoying a trip on the trail.       Established in 1992 and covering 176 acres, the Heritage Rail Trail County Park is 21 miles long and runs north from the Mason Dixon line just south of the Borough of New Freedom through Glen Rock, Hanover Junction, and Seven Valleys, through the Howard Tunnel to the Colonial Courthouse in the City of York. The trail connects to Maryland's Torrey C. Brown Trail. The Northern Extension portion of the Heritage Rail Trail begins at John Rudy Park and heads south to Loucks Mill Rd, about 4 miles. Then, in Spring of 2019, a new section from Loucks Mill Road to Small's Field in York will be completed. In addition to the Colonial Courthouse, three historic structures are located on the trail; Hanover Junction and New Freedom Train Stations and Howard Tunnel. Since the railway is operational, please stay clear of tracks at all times and cross only at established crossings.

    • Activities:
      The most popular activities on the trail are hiking, jogging, bicycle riding, and horseback riding. Please note horseback riding is not permitted in all areas.

    From 1854 through 1888, the 72 acres of land known as the York Iron Co. Mine site, was one of 170 iron ore mines in York County. The mine was part of an 1800's iron ore boom that produced some of the best iron ore, called "Codorus Ore," in the area. The mine stopped operations in 1888. The land was later used as agricultural land, with seven acres as a landfill site. The landfill was reclaimed in the late 1980's and early 1990's and donated to the county by Modern Landfill and Recycling, a Waste Management company.

  • Inhabitants: The former iron ore mines are home to four species of bats that live in the same environment. A bat gate was constructed in cooperation with the PA Game Commission and Wildlife Conservation Fund to protect the hibernating inhabitants of Raab Park.

    • Pavilion Rentals: Five pavilions are available for a nominal fee at Lake Redman. Reservations should be made in advance by calling the County Parks Office or visiting the pavilion rental page of our website to reserve online..     • Hunting: Limited hunting is allowed with special permits. Contact the parks office for up-to-date information.

    • Horseshoe Pits: Horseshoe pits are located near pavilions.

    • Multi-use Trails: There are over 12 miles of marked trails. Horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking are permitted on all trails. Trails are closed to mountain bikers and horseback riders during "wet conditions," as determined by Park Rangers.     • Scenic Observation Decks: There are two observation decks located in the park. One deck is located on the north side of the park and offers a panoramic view of the Susquehanna Valley (ADA accessible). The other deck is located on the south side of the park and offers a view of the York Valley.

    • Nature Fun Zone: Located in Hidden Laurel picnic area. Nature playground, gives kids ages 2-12 a fenced in area where they can play with nature. The area features different zones such as a digging zone, a climbing zone, a quite zone, a building zone and more.

    • Fitness Trail: The trail starts in Hidden Laurel Picnic Area and ends at the observation deck on the north side of the park. There are 20 exercise stations scattered throughout this half-mile, cinder, all-weather trail.

    • Hunting: Limited hunting is allowed with special permit issued by the Parks Office.

    • Horseshoe Pits: Located in Hidden Laurel and Oak Timbers picnic areas.

    • Pavilion Rentals: Eleven pavilions can be rented for a nominal fee. Capacity ranges from 50 - 200 persons. Located near parking lots and restrooms. All are ADA accessible. Gazebos are available for a fee. For more information, visit our pavilion rentals page.

    • Christmas Magic, "A Festival of Lights": This event is a park sponsored spectacular 600,000+ multi-colored light show. It features a one-half mile walking trail that winds through Oak Timbers Picnic Area with stops in heated pavilions. Refreshments are available. The trail opens the Friday after Thanksgiving and remains open until December 31st. (Closed December 24 and 25)

    Apollo Park was donated to the county in 1969 by P. H. Gladfelter and named in honor of the 1969 Apollo moon landing. Apollo Park was originally two parcels of mostly forested and very wild river hill country joined together to create this 340 acre park located east of New Bridgeville in southeast York County. The park is a fine example of beautiful Susquehanna River hills habitat: rhododendron, mountain laurel-covered valleys that cut into sharp, heavily-forested slopes falling down to the river. In addition, several clear streams (Wilson Run and Boyd Run) cut through the valleys on their way to the Susquehanna River.

  • Hiking Trails: There are over six miles of trails. Bikes, horses and pets are not allowed on the trails.

    • Nature Center: Full-time Naturalists staff the center and offer guided nature walks and programs to pre-scheduled groups. The Nature Center is open Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30am – 4 :30pm, and Sunday, 12:00pm-4:30pm. Closed Mondays and most holidays.

  • Multi-Use Trails: There are over five miles of trails throughout the park. Horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking are permitted on all trails. Trails are closed to mountain biking and horseback riders during "wet conditions," as determined by park rangers.

    • Animal Activity Area: Two horse show rings and one practice ring can be rented for a nominal fee or each one can be rented separately. All three rings are locked except on the day of rental. Numerous equestrian shows are held during the spring and summer. A schedule of events and a price listing sheet can be obtained from the Parks Office. The trails and roadways within the park offer over 12 miles of riding area and is suitable for everything from English and Western pleasure to barrel racing, pole bending and jumping.

    • Fishing: All Pa. Fish Commission Regulations do apply.

    • Fish for Fun Area: This one acre pond contains catfish, panfish and a number of small bass.

    • East Branch of the Codorus Creek: It is a trout approved stream that is stocked several times in the spring by the Pa. Fish Commission and the Izaak Walton League.

    • Hunting: Limited types of hunting is allowed in certain areas of the park by special parks permit only.

    John C. Rudy County Park is located in East Manchester Township, near Emigsville. Totalling 150 acres, it features pavilions, sports fields, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, open recreational space, a cross-country running trail, a BMX track and the popular Canine Meadows Off-Leash Dog Area. It is also home to the Parks Administrative Offices, located in a 1798 stone house, the maintenance headquarters, Penn State Master Gardener Trial Gardens, and numerous other buildings. The land was donated in 1973 by George B. Rudy and Viola Rudy Williams in memory of their grandparents, John and Mary Rudy.

  • Softball and Soccer Fields - Three regulation softball
    fields and five regulation soccer fields can be reserved
    for a fee. Fields are closed during "wet conditions". Call
    the Park's Headquarters, for up-to-date field conditions or visit the Park's Facebook or Twitter pages.

    • Canine Meadows Off-Leash Dog Area Three
      large fenced in areas where dogs can run off leash. Open
      every day. Review regulations posted at site.

    • Horseshoe Pits - Horseshoe pits are located near the
      pavilions.

    • Sand Volleyball Courts - Three sand volleyball
      courts are located in the park.

    • 5K Cross Country Course - The 5 kilometer (3.1
      mile) grass course covers nearly every park corner.

    • Playgrounds - Four ADA playgrounds

    • Multi-purpose Trails - A 1+ mile paved trail is open
      to biking, hiking, jogging, and rollerblading. Trail is
      stroller and wheelchair accessible. Horses are not allowed
      on the trail or within the park.

    • Picnic Tables - Picnic tables are located in the shade
      of large trees, perfect for quiet picnics.

    • Pavilion and Gazebo Rental - 11 ADA Pavilions
      and one gazebo may be rented for a fee. Pavilion capacity
      ranges from 75 - 200 persons. Ensure availability by
      making reservations in advance by calling the Administrative
      Headquarters or reserving online on our Pavilion rental portion of the website. Fees are non-refundable.

    • Winter Sports - Sledding and cross-country skiing.

    • Life Trail Exercise Stations– Ten outdoor Wellness
      Stations provide well-rounded fitness programs for active adults.

    • Bumps & Berms BMX Club - This group sponsors
      bicycle racing on their special dirt track. The track can
      only be used during ABA sanctioned events.
