National Voluntary Organization Active in Disaster - National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD)
A coalition of nonprofit organizations and volunteers that work in disaster preparedness, disaster response, disaster relief, disaster recovery, and disaster mitigation. NVOAD supports the coordination of planning efforts by voluntary organizations responding to disaster. Member organizations provide more effective and less duplication of services by getting together before disasters strike. Once disasters occur, National VOAD, or an affiliated State or US Territory VOAD, encourages members and other voluntary agencies to convene on site. They strive to foster more effective service to people affected by disaster through communication, coordination, cooperation, collaboration, convening mechanisms, and outreach. National VOAD is the primary point of contact for voluntary organizations in the National Response Coordination Center (at FEMA headquarters) and is a signatory to the National Response Plan.
