The health bureau's three main functions are to assess and monitor the population's health status, develop public policies to maintain and promote health and assure that the population has access to public health services. Clinics provide immunizations, STD/HIV testing, pregnancy testing, screening for prostate and breast cancer and monitoring of chronic diseases. Services include: Environmental Health services include sanitation, animal control, lead abatement and food services. Clinic services: - Family Planning Clinic, immunization clinic and TB clinic are available by appointment only. - Wellness Center at the Health Bureau offers some immunizations and health screenings. Open Monday and Friday, 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Appointments preferred. - Walk in STD clinic offered Wednesdays 10:00am to 1:00pm Emergency Preparedness Division educates individuals and businesses on preparing for natural disasters, epidemics and/or other emergencies. Recruits and trains the medical reserve corps, a medical related volunteer corps that can be mobilized in response to disasters. Maternal and Child Health services include free dental care for uninsured children attending Bethlehem school district and in-home asthma trigger assessments. Chronic Disease and Health Education Programs focus on smoking prevention/cessation, injury prevention, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
