Immigration & Refugee Program

- Immigration Counseling: Accredited to give low cost legal immigration advice and assistance, representing clients before the Immigration Services and the Courts. Help clients fill out forms for a nominal fee. Experience with family petitions, citizenship, application for green cards, work permits, green card replacement, travel documents, bond hearings, master calendar hearings, and more.

- Refugee Resettlement and Match Grant Program: Work with community-based and faith-based groups to resettle refugees who come to them through the US Refugee Program. Also works with individuals who have received asylum status. Funds are only available for those refugees who were resettled by their office or asylees who were accepted into their Match Grant Program.

- Intensive Case Management and Navigation Support Program, offering intensive, extended and short-term support to eligible individuals and families. Assists refugees, asylees, victims of trafficking, SIVS, and Cuban/Haitian Entrants within 3-5 years of arrival to the US. Support services include but are not limited to medical navigation, referral assistance, and ESL learning links.



- Refugee Employment Program: Assists in job search for refugees, asylees, victims of trafficking or Cuban/Haitian Entrants within 5 years of arrival to US. No fees charged.






Accepts donations of lightly used furniture and household goods in good condition, by Appointment only. No appliances. Only for refugees and some asylees. Limited storage and manpower.

Provides help to foreign-born individuals and families coming through the federal government’s resettlement program find housing and employment and help connect them to local services and benefits.

JFCS staff secures housing and provides furniture, food and clothing. Provides long term assistance, including but not limited to airport pick-up, referrals to human services benefits, set-up of medical appointments, paperwork, ESL class referrals, peer group guidance and transportation issues. Helps clients find work, navigate American workforce expectations and gain skills. We work with you to evaluate your job skills, interests and past work experience in order to identify areas of opportunity that might be a good match for you. Our employment counselors have built relationships with local employers that hire newcomers. We’ll provide translators if necessary, transportation to interviews, resume assistance and more. Some refugees may be connected to the JFCS Career Development Center for further training. We provide a number of pre- and post-employment support services to help ensure your success in the workplace.

Offers legal permanent residents: Immigration lawyers and representatives accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals provide consultation and assistance for anyone with limited financial resources. Help with applications for green cards, visa extensions, petitions for relatives overseas, affidavits of support, affidavits of relationship, status inquiries, and low-cost consultations on immigration questions. Support service referrals, such as ESL classes and employment services. Citizenship classes to help immigrants prepare for the naturalization interview.
