AOA Foundation - Optometry Cares
Vision USA, Eye Care
Provides basic eye health and vision care services to uninsured, low-income people and their families. To be eligible, applicants must have no vision insurance, meet income guidelines and have had no eye exam in the last two years. Applications can be submitted online or by telephone. Notification on eligibility determination is made in 3-7 weeks and applicants are assigned to a participating provider in their area.

Eligibility: VISION USA is open to children and adults. General eligibility requirements vary by state. To receive free services, you must: * be a US citizen or legal resident * Have no vision insurance (this includes Medicare/Medicaid) * Have income below an established level based on household size * Not have had an eye exam within two years If you or your family are eligible to receive services, you will be matched with a volunteer doctor of optometry who will provide a comprehensive eye exam at no charge. Eyewear also may be provided at no cost or for a small fee/donation in some states. (Note: Doctors donate their services and may be limited in some areas.)

Under this program, our member optometrists will provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment within the first year of life as a no cost public health service.

Presentations are approximately one hour in length and are very informative. We provide information and referral services to individuals who are blind or vision impaired. This program was established to help individuals secure the support and services they need.

BVRS offers assessments by licensed optometrists, prescriptions for optical aids, and the opportunity to try out aids ranging from magnifiers, writing guides, special lighting devices, and closed-circuit TVs. Prevention of blindness programs including free vision screenings for children 12 months to 6 years of age. Transportation This free door-to-door service provides rides to essential medical appointment or critical service need, such as obtaining a photo ID or grocery shopping. Individuals must live in Allegheny County and meet the program criteria. We request that appointments be made in advance.
