Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging
ACAAA Headquarters - Caregiver Support
Offers referrals to agencies that provide Caregiver Support services. Monitors and funds these services. Provides primary caregivers with a break from caregiving. Services include reimbursement for out of pocket costs associated with caregiving related services and supplies, education, training, counseling, respite care and more.
The program supports individuals who want to live at home but need help with daily activities such as meal preparation, bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and/or personal care. It is designed to ease the burden for caregivers who are overwhelmed with helping their loved one, managing their own family, and possibly work responsibilities as well.

Eligibility: Services are available to Allegheny County residents who are: Adults (18
and older) caring for someone who is 60 years of age or older (or
someone of any age with early onset Alzheimers) Grandparents (age 55
and older) taking care of grandchildren when parents are unavailable
Individuals (age 55 and older) taking care of a family member (age 18
to 59) with a disability.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Butler County Outreach - Butler County Housing Services
Provides the following services: Emergency Shelter: Hotel accommodation for a limited number of days for individuals and families without shelter. Emergency Solutions Grant: Housing relocation, stabilization, and rental assistance to rehouse those without shelter and prevent losing their homes. Home Again: Permanent supportive housing families with children, in particular those struggling with mental illness, includes vocational and educational assistance, life skills training, rental subsidies, and referrals to substance abuse and mental health treatments. PATH: Permanent supportive housing for young adults between 18 and 24 struggling with mental illness and/or addiction, includes vocational and educational assistance, life skills training, rental subsidies, and referrals to substance abuse and mental health treatments. Rental Assistance: Up to one month's rental assistance to help individuals and families to avert immediate housing crises.

Butler - Family Caregiver Support Program
Provides support to caregivers of functionally dependent people. Targeted specially for caregivers. It is innovative in that it allows the caregiver the opportunity to manage and control what goods and services will be purchased according to the caregiver’s needs. The goal of the program is to reduce caregiver stress and reinforce the care bring provided to older persons at home.

Provides the supportive services necessary to help individuals maintain their independence at home. Services include personal care, meal preparation, respite care, housekeeping, and a range of specialized programs.

Indiana - Extended Home Care
Provides a broad range of in-home care and services for clients of any age. The
emphasis is on personal care assistance and home management in order for individuals in need of assistance to maintain an independent lifestyle. Private duty nursing is also available.

A support group for caregivers to learn coping and caregiver skills and gain knowledge about diseases, medications, research and legal issues.

over or an adult with chronic dementia. Primary caregivers for an
individual, ages 19-59, with a disability and relatives providing care
for children may also qualify for the program.

Provides standardized, focused access to homeless services for individuals and families without a stable, safe and affordable home in Lackawanna County. Services include comprehensive intake and assessment and linkages to case management, housing and supportive services.

    The goal of the Protective Services Department is to insure that the basic health and safety of all older adults are met in the least restrictive setting possible, and that no older adult should remain at imminent risk to person or property.

    Elder abuse may involve one or more of the following:
    • Abuse
    • Neglect
    • Exploitation
    • Abandonment



    Abuse may occur when a caregiver fails to meet the needs of the older person or when older people fail to take care of themselves.

    Protective Services are provided under one or more of the following conditions:
    • 60 years of age or older
    • Incapacitated person
    • Unable to obtain or perform services necessary to maintain physical or mental health
    • No responsible caretaker
    • Imminent risk of his/her person or property

    Community Shelter Services
    Administrative Office - Lighting the Candle
    Provides a supported housing program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development that assists these families once they are ready to move beyond the Emergency Shelter.

    Supplies short-term rental subsidies and supportive services to families. Assists participants with services such as housing search, case management, budgeting, and job training, as well as goal planning and guidance toward self-sufficiency for up to two years. Assists clients with appropriate home furnishings to enable them to move forward on the road to independent living.
