RISE - Expungement Services
Individuals who are enrolled in the RISE program and actively attending classes, will be eligible to meet with Mike Lee, an attorney with The Philadelphia Lawyer’s for Social Equity (PLSE). Through the Criminal Record Expungement Project, Mr. Lee will then be able to offer legal advice as to whether or not a participant qualifies for Expungement Services. If he/she does qualify, expungement petitions will be drafted and a court date will be scheduled before a judge to determine whether or not data can be removed from one’s record.

The Southwestern PA Re-entry Coalition (SPARC) formed in 2004 and has connected groups that are working to provide a range of services that will help individuals make a smooth transition from incarceration back into the community. SPARC members work together to increase the awareness of these resources and ensure that the criminal justice system agencies and transitioning individuals are aware of and able to access the resources available to them. The coalition has relationships with local correctional institutions and nearby state institutions to provide services to anyone in the local area with a criminal record, including housing opportunities, drug and alcohol treatment, mental health services, transportation, child care, family support, etc. People coming out of prison or jail can come to any member organization and will then be referred to other agencies that can provide needed services not provided by that organization.
