08/2018: In light of recent events, the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (PDMVA) might be able to offer a onetime benefit payment (up to a max of $1,600). All honorably discharged veterans should contact their county Veterans Affairs office for qualifications and processing. --------------------- The County Of York, Veterans Affairs is an advocate dedicated to serving veterans and their families or the survivors of veterans. This service includes assisting veterans and dependents when applying for federal, state, and county benefits and all other rights to which they are entitled in the most expedient manner possible; providing support to county veterans' service organizations, promoting public recognition of us veterans and fostering one-hundred percent americanism and patriotism. Individual counseling for veterans and dependents, and survivors of veterans. Assist in obtaining military administrative & medical records, and military discharges Emergency referral services Process both federal & state benefits & assistance program applications (monetary, educational, disability, burial, memorials, monuments, etc) Administers county burial benefits program Administers the purchase & distribution of memorial flags and flag markers Administers the recording of military discharges Administers vets emergency assistance program Provides assistance in obtaining transportation Transportation can be provided In-home services are available Outreach locations: New Freedom at the South Central Senior Community Center, 150 E. Main St., 2nd Thursday of the month, 8:30 am - 12 noon Red Lion at the Red Lion Area Senior Center, 20c Gotham Place, 3rd Wednesday of the month, 8 am - 2 pm Greater Hanover area Family Center at the Hanover Chapter Of The American Red Cross, 1st and 3rd Fridays 8:30 am - 3 pm. The goal of Operation REACH (Relief for Emergency Assistance through Community Help) is to assist veterans who are struggling with substance abuse and/ or co-occurring mental health needs get the help that they need. This initiative will focus on the comprehensive needs of the veteran and delivering services through a holistic approach. Operation REACH will strive to provide intervention support services through a targeted case management model. Veterans and their families will benefit from targeted case management through assistance in coordination with basic necessities. Unlike many programs, characterization of discharge will not serve as eligibility criteria for Operation REACH.
