The York County Food Bank collects, stores, & sends surplus food to approximately 130 food pantries, senior centers and other non-profit organizations for distribution to needy, ill, elderly, those in half-way houses, children, infants, and camp programs in York County. The Food Bank charges approximately 19 cents per pound to cover expenses. Food is not for resale, nor given directly to individuals except for very specific program.

All staff and volunteers are working from home. Message from American Red Cross: Disaster Services: - Disaster Services Our response to emergencies in the community will continue. We are operating by practicing social distancing. All volunteers have been supplied with PPE (personal protective equipment). Casework is being conducted remotely by our team of volunteers. We are working on a plan to be able to respond to emergencies remotely. Service to Armed Forces: - Operating remotely for emergency messaging and casework. VA Hospital volunteer activities suspended, per VA hospital guidance. Blood Services: As blood drives are cancelled due to coronavirus concerns, the American Red Cross strongly urges healthy individuals to give blood to help patients in need. Through March 19, about 3,300 PA drives have been cancelled resulting in 9,300 fewer blood donations in PA - We understand why people may be hesitant to come out for a blood drive, but want to reassure the public that we are taking additional precautions to ensure the safety of our donors and staff: - We are checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy. - We have hand sanitizer for use before entering the drive, as well as throughout the donation process. - We are spacing beds, where possible, to follow social distancing practices between blood donors

  • Offering SHOWERS - Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm. There is a sign up sheet out front, and then admitted into the building into lobby to wait for the shower time. Coffee also being served while waiting. Please, be aware that as our service stands in the gap to serve our most vulnerable population, our need for donations and volunteers has increased. Thank you for your patience and understanding. --- COORDINATED ENTRY SYSTEM WALK-IN SITE: is the Cumberland County's approach to organizing and providing housing services for people experiencing homelessness. Access to the system can be gain through 211 system or through a walk in site. Community CARES is the only physical access site in the county. Because housing resources are limited, this process is designed to ensure that individuals and families with the highest vulnerability, service needs, and length of homelessness receive top priority in housing placement. (To better serve the county need, Community CARES also operates monthly satellite CES sites in partnership with two locates of New Hope Ministry in Lemoyne and Mechanicsburg and Katie's place in Shippensburg).

All shelter guests were required to go through a National Criminal Investigation Check (N.C.I.C.) Visit the Carlisle Police Station at 240 Lincoln St, Carlisle to obtain NCIC clearance and bring that with you when you come to the shelter. Criminal sexual offenders who appear on the Megan's Law list are not admitted to the CARES program.
