A community engagement project that takes the shape of a community theater production. The project builds a space for community members to gain leadership skills, explore self limiting beliefs, occupy spaces they do not naturally see themselves in, and build a better world.

Conduct art projects (watercolor, dance, poetry, photography) as a way to outreach to Oakbrook neighbors, improve livability, and foster intra neighbor relationships in the area.

Summer camp program for school-age children, ages 5 to 13, operates during the summer months to provide kids with a safe and supportive summer of fun.

A group mentoring program for teens ages 13 and older who are already a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Designed to teach adult-life skills and help teens prepare for the decisions they will need to make after high school graduation. Meets once a month. It is run by teens.

One-To-One program matches Littles in our agency with Big Brothers or Big Sisters for a minimum of one year. The "matches" get together for an average of 8-10 hours per month (4-hour minimum). Each match has its own unique Case Plan designed to help the Little improve and to provide an actionable plan for the volunteer Big.

A group mentoring program which provides immediate mentoring services to youth upon acceptance to the agency, while the Little awaits a One-To-One match.

A school-based mentoring program. It is highly supervised by the professional staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters on-site at participating schools. The target population is elementary and middle school children, adaptable to meet the requirements of a particular school district.
The program works in conjunction with school district officials to improve a child’s academic performance, self-confidence, respect for others & their cultures, and relationships with peers & adults. Mentors can be high school students, college students, or community members (depending on the site).

Camp Lily Berks is a week-long day camp that provides a well-rounded summer camp experience for children and young adults (ages 8-21) with disabilities. Their camps promise to engage, entertain and educate by offering inclusive activities that build skills, promote friendships and increase independence. Campers enjoy swimming, arts and crafts, games, sports, music, educational programs and a host of other activities. Special guests visit to teach workshops and entertain. Blend a performance opportunity with the skill building to improve any performance. Led by Andrea Hart, Guest Teachers and Yocum Theater Faculty, this popular in depth summer theater experience gives young actors training in voice, dance and acting while working towards putting on a fabulous production for the public.

About the show:
The eternally optimistic SpongeBob and his best pals are put to the test. The stakes are higher than ever, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage. (Can you guess who?) The power of optimism really can save the world!

Drawing from the music and poetry of Camille Saint-Saëns, they will create a new re-mix carnival of real, mythical, and imaginary animals. Poetry, Spoken Word, all genres of music will inspire how their animals move, what they look like and where they may have come from.

From bubbly art to under-the-sea adventurers, so much to dive into this week! Bubble watercolor projects, recycled art sea creatures – and chance to see a rehearsal of SpongeBob the musical (young audiences’ version.)

Weird and silly is the theme of the week. Be curious and explore together. Mix up story characters, paint a fish that hangs out with the man in the moon, play a cauliflower trumpet? Who knows what they will come up with!

Let the laughter begin. They will go through their own “sticky situations” both pretend – for example, acting out what to do when the ice cream machine is leaking – and in real life, using static to hold a balloon up or which glue works best. A week of experimentation and problem solving – with giggles, lots of giggles.

Space awaits as they explore the skies through music, movement and artists such as, Van Gogh, James Whistler, Georgia O’Keefe. In creative drama they may meet a friendly alien and teach them their language. Their space adventure is waiting in the stars.

Like to take things apart and create something new? This is the chance to get messy and creative. Their young artists will take apart old mechanical devices, mix them together to make something inspired by a character they create or an environment they imagine.

Their movie makers learn what goes into making a movie as they create shorts with a film director. Created works will be edited and finalized after the camp and posted to Yocum’s YouTube page.

Be onstage! Dive into developing believable characters however fanciful they may be. Working in a short musical format, pieces will be selected from scripted works. This workshop will have a strong acting focus along with developing a singer’s voice. Pack a lunch, snack, water bottle and a pencil.

Local muralist Andrew Pochan will lead the way as they think big! Participants will collaborate and design a mural to be on display at the Yocum Institute, in addition to their own large piece of art. When they aren’t painting, they will be inspired through stories they create, music and movement. Dress for MESS!

Dive into the magical world of Wonderland. A week of rhymes, silly stories, creative movement, song, painting roses and (of course) the opportunity to make their own fabulous hat: perfect to wear to the performance of Be Curious at the Heritage Center.

Berks Summer Band Institute is a multi-generational summer band program for Berks County band musicians. Four bands of varying levels for musicians of all ages, including a 1st year band, 2nd year band, middle school band, and high school / adult band. In this course on jazz style and improvisation, team-taught with colleague Chris Heslop, participants will learn how to improvise using scales and modes. Rhythm section participants (piano, guitar, bass and drums) will learn how to accompany soloists and to perform their own solos. Jazz styles will be learned through playing and listening. Students will also learn the basics of jazz performance, including how to get one's own jazz combo started.

Children from New York City are provided a one-to-two week vacation with a host family during the summer months. It is hoped that the host family will accept the child as one of their own during the visit. Medical bills are paid by program, which is funded by New York City businesses and New York United Way. Transportation and liability insurance are paid by the Fresh Air Fund. The program is for inner city children of NYC ages 7-12. Host families are recruited in 13 different states along the eastern seaboard from Canada-West Virginia. Background checks, PA Child Abuse Clearances , References and an interview are required to be a host family.



Lancaster County has 4 different groups arriving from June 30 - August 21. Hosts may choose age and gender of the child, also the weeks that fit best in the Host Family's schedule.

Offers a conference for youth in grades 6-12 at the Coatesville Area High School. Includes regional keynote presenters and workshops about leadership topics including youth empowerment, overcoming adversity, and preparing for the future. Also features a community conversation “for youth and by youth”.

Offers two youth councils which provide youth with a forum to exercise their voice by discussing policy issues while advising the work of the CYI and its partners. Game Changers Youth Council focuses on advocating for the general well-being of youth in the Coatesville community. Youth Prevention Task Force focuses on implementing projects and policies that focus on substance use prevention for youth in the Coatesville community.

Provides a single entry point to help find mental health support and services that meet the needs of youth and their families. Services include assessment; information and referral to mental health support specialists; and positive, pro-social opportunities and activities for youth to help prevent and/or reduce mental health issues. Also provides follow-ups to check on the youth's progress.

Provides materials and information for life, work, and pleasure. Collections include books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, eBooks, and eAudiobooks.

Warming center is available for individuals and families.

Offers adult primary care, pediatric primary care, women's healthcare, and prenatal care. Also offers behavioral health services, health education and information, and social services assistance.

Open Door Nights: Students come together and connect with one another in a safe place. Facilities include basketball, video game systems, ping pong, pool and fooseball tables, board games, video and a room for dodgeball, hockey and other recreational activities. There is also a lesson time.

Mentoring: The factory has many dedicated volunteers who meet individually with the teens. This allows the staff a chance to cultivate friendships and a opportunity to counsel and offer help and support.

Offers three mentoring programs for children. Volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters provide friendship, guidance, support, and encouragement in social, educational, and cultural experiences.

Combines individual mentoring programs with comprehensive after-school instructional services and financial support, all tailored to fit the needs of the individual student. Students in the program may also receive laptops, calculators, and USBs.

Provides an array of public library services. This is the first library in Lancaster County to have a supporting partnership with a private organization (Houston Run Community Center) and the first library in the county to be designed as an integral part of a cafe.
