“I didn’t know who else to call.”

Staying at home poses challenges for Kay, who struggles with chronic conditions that make her vulnerable to COVID-19. She depends on food stamps and her local food pantry to supplement her only income, a small disability benefit.

But the food pantry was closed until further notice. Her EBT card was depleted and wouldn’t be recharged for days. She left a message with the food pantry, but when no one called back right away she called PA 211. She told the Resource Navigator that she’d have no food left after eating her evening meal.

Kay’s information was relayed to one of PA 211’s provider partners. Kay’s doorbell rang just a short time later; the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh had left a large box of shelf-stable groceries on her porch.

“I wish I could thank the 211 staff personally for what they did.” -Kay, Southwestern PA
