APRI Pittsburgh Chapter - Breaking the Chains of Poverty Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Offers eight-week pre-apprenticeship program designed to help individuals build the skill necessary to obtain family-sustaining careers in the building and construction trades, manufacturing, and energy sectors. Students receive six industry-recognized certifications and life skills training.

Eligibility: Allegheny County residents, age 18 and older, who meet additional eligibility criteria. Ex-offenders are welcome.

Intake Procedure: Call or register on the website.
Intake Requirements: High school diploma or GED.
Must be drug free.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
Must be or become a registered voter (waived for individuals who are not US citizens).
10th grade competency based on TABE Level A testing.
Must successfully complete and pass a panel interview.
Geographical Area: Allegheny County
Helpful Tips: Successful graduates with a letter of recommendation are guaranteed interviews with Sheet Metal Workers Local 12, Steamfitters Local 449, and IBEW Local 5 (must place in the top 20% on the entrance exam). Graduates are guaranteed entry into LIUNA (Laborers) Western District.
