Works to improve and enhance residents' quality of care and quality of life. Provides education about resident rights guaranteed under law to consumers, their families and staff. Ombudsmen encourage self-advocacy first and empower consumers and their families by providing information to resolve concerns. Also works with residents to resolve individual issues involving long-term care services if residents are unable or unwilling to speak for themselves.
