14 Week Program. Free lunch. Free childcare. Transportation support available.

Prevention and intervention program intended to enhance children's social and emotional competencies, and ultimately reduce behavior problems. The Incredible Years Series has been found to decrease harsh discipline practices, improve pro-active parenting skills and the parent-child relationship, enhance children's academic and social competence, and decrease aggression.

The parenting program is recommended by the American Psychological Association Task Force as meeting the stringent criteria for empirically supported mental health interventions for children with conduct problems. The Incredible Years series is an evidence-based intervention recognized through the Blueprints for Violence Prevention and SAMHSA model programs.

Center for Parenting Education - Internet Based
The Internet Based Parenting Education program consists of two different approaches to reach parents who cannot come in to attend the programs we hold at our site.
The first is live online educational workshops in which parents attend the program in a virtual meeting room in live time. There is a mix of formal presentation, interactive exercises and opportunities for parents to share their stories and ask questions.

The second type of program consists of "on demand articles" which are placed on our website and available to parents whenever they have the time or need to address certain issues. These articles, either audio-based narrated power points or text only, are short (5 to 10 minutes) and cover challenges that parents face as they raise their children.
The advantage of these programs is that parents can attend/learn the information from the comfort of their own homes, accommodating their hectic schedules, and without having to consider child-care needs

Each session is lead by two Parenting Educators. There is informal education for the parents that goes on as teachable moments arise; issues about development, readiness, realistic expectations, management techniques, discipline are typical areas of information that the Parenting Educators discuss.

Juvenile Justice Center Family Services of Philadelphia
Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia - Parents in Training
A program for parents provided by Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia since 1997

Many children enter the Department of Human Services system neglected and/or abused by natural parents who lack appropriate parenting skills. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of training programs which address this issue. The Parents-In-Training Program's goal is to fill that void by providing a supportive group environment and useful information so that biological mothers and fathers can become successful parents. Helping parents to build self-esteem and a positive outlook is a focus of the program. The program focuses on empowering parents so that they can make more informed decisions in the lives of their children.

The parenting sessions are held two hours per week and include videos, lectures, group discussions and individual conferences. This program focuses on equipping natural parents with knowledge and skills related to child development, healthy nutritional patterns, good health and hygiene practices, identifying forms of child abuse, proper disciplinary techniques, child safety issues, life skills, interaction with various systems such as DHS, educational and welfare, and many other subjects related to child rearing and child/parent relationships.

Bi-monthly individual meetings and post graduation follow-up reports are used to track and document each parent's progression during and following the program. The program has a Community Resource Coordinator who keeps in contact with the client's social worker via correspondence and/or telephone to report on client progress during the program. The program includes field trips, an incentives system, tokens, food served and, at the conclusion of sixteen weeks, a big graduation celebration with friends and family and a certificate of completion.
