HUGS - Helping Understand Grief Stages - for Kids is sponsored by Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice and funded by the Gray Foundation. Held twice annually, these bereavement programs provide a safe and supportive atmosphere where children and teens from kindergarten to grade 12 who have experienced the death of a loved one, can share their experiences and feelings.

It is a six-week program held usually on Tuesday evening starting at 6:30pm. The facilitators will assist children and teens in learning ways to deal with the grieving process through discussions, role playing, art and literature. There is no fee to attend but registration is appreciated.

Bereavement Support Groups
Hospice care can be provided at home, in long term care facilities or in St Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem. Hospice also provides bereavement support and guidance for anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one, regardless of where their loved one died. Bereavement support services are free-of-charge, open to all and include support groups, workshops for adults and children, lectures/discussions and services of remembrance. Ryan's Tree is a six-week guided peer support program designed for children and adolescents, age 5 - 18, who are grieving the loss of a family member or friend. Call for current schedule of bereavement programs.

Home health care is provided by nurses and health aides to help patients recover from illness or injury. Serves individuals from infancy to adulthood. PATH program provides visiting nurses to families who need support with daily tasks and parenting. Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) provides visiting nurses who work with low income, first time mothers on parenting, nutrition and birth control from the beginning of their pregnancy until their babies are two years old.
