Connects volunteers who have similar interests and life experience with individuals in mental health recovery. Volunteers provide supportive friendship and mentoring relationships to promote mental wellness and inclusion.

Volunteers can meet with their friend for various activities, from having coffee or dinner downtown to visiting festivals, etc. The activities depend on the interests of both parties and available events. The goal is to promote socialization and have fun.

Eligibility: Adults (age 18 and older) in mental health recovery.

Individuals who are willing to serve as a friend to someone in recovery from a mental illness are eligible to volunteer.

Hours: Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm

Intake Procedure: Visit the intake website to download the Volunteer Application.

The Volunteer Application should include two references and may be returned by mail, email to compeer@sphs.org, or in person.

Once the Volunteer Application and the standard background checks are completed, the volunteer will be asked to complete a short training. The training can be completed online or in person at the volunteer's choice. The program coordinator will then try to match a volunteer to a program participant based on similar interests, location, etc.

Intake Requirements: Completed Volunteer Application, along with standard clearances for volunteers. Also, a copy of current driver's license and proof of insurance where applicable is required.
