Williamsport - Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
Eligible participants receive a Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) which enables them to lease qualified apartments in the private rental market. The participant's portion of the rent is based on income.

Fee Amounts: Private landlords may require a security deposit and one month's rent. Tenant pays between 30% and 40% of their adjusted gross monthly income in rent.
Intake Procedure: Applications accepted through online submission only. Please call the main office if assistance submitting an application is required.
Intake Requirements: Names, dates of birth, and Social Security Numbers for all household members. Should also know the amount of income, assets, and expenses for each household member, and complete a criminal background check.

Helpful Tips: A family or individual who has been issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the their choice where the owner agrees to rent under the voucher program. Rental units must meet acceptable standards of health and safety and fall within housing authority guidelines.
