The goal of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is to help individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness to recover hopes and dreams for self-determination, build the strengths and skills necessary, and take steps towards achieving these dreams. To achieve these goals, the IOP will empower participants to support their own recovery, cope more effectively with and manage their symptoms, prevent relapse, manage stress in healthy ways, and strengthen social relationships. The IOP will provide group therapy, as well as linkages to individual therapy and psychiatric services for medication management, with a focus on hope, empowerment, choice, and partnership. Specialized clinical resources for people who have experienced trauma and/or who have substance abuse disorders will address the particular needs of these participants. Specialized clinical resources for young adults and those with developmental disabilities will address these participants’ particular needs. The IOP will strive to create a collaborative network with participants, family members, case management services and other service providers.

    Outpatient Counseling Services are available to children and adolescents aged three through twenty-one who are experiencing acute or chronic emotional or psychiatric symptoms in the home, school, or community. Counseling is provided weekly not only to each child or adolescent, but also to families and guardians. A Staff Psychiatrist heads the treatment team and meets with each individual regularly. Medication can also be prescribed as necessary.

    You and your family will meet privately with a professionally credentialed clinician who will listen to your concerns.
    The clinician will help you and your family identify areas in your life and ways you relate to each other that you would like to change.
    You, your family and the clinician will develop a plan to achieve these changes.
    The plan will usually include the clinician meeting regularly with your child individually as well as meeting with you as a family.
    You and your family will be supported by the clinician as you take actions to bring about these changes.
    The clinician will arrange for your child to see a PATH child psychiatrist, if indicated.
    You and your child will meet with the child psychiatrist who will complete an evaluation and may prescribe medication for your child, if indicated.
    You may continue to see both the child psychiatrist for medication appointments and see the clinician for therapy.
