Provides help to foreign-born individuals and families coming through the federal government’s resettlement program find housing and employment and help connect them to local services and benefits.

JFCS staff secures housing and provides furniture, food and clothing. Provides long term assistance, including but not limited to airport pick-up, referrals to human services benefits, set-up of medical appointments, paperwork, ESL class referrals, peer group guidance and transportation issues. Helps clients find work, navigate American workforce expectations and gain skills. We work with you to evaluate your job skills, interests and past work experience in order to identify areas of opportunity that might be a good match for you. Our employment counselors have built relationships with local employers that hire newcomers. We’ll provide translators if necessary, transportation to interviews, resume assistance and more. Some refugees may be connected to the JFCS Career Development Center for further training.

Every effort is made to put useful items in the right hands. Weekly Cancer Mission collections and cooperation with other thrift shops insure that things donated are not wasted. Varied and growing connections with local endeavors have fostered meaningful "in-kind" donations such as educational toys and games to a Childrenâs Learning Center in Norristown, a hat rack and wigs to the Wellness Place, blankets and coats to the homeless in Philadelphia, prom gowns to the Fairy Godmother Program, clothing and household items to folks whose home burned down and to clients in the programs of Ambler Interfaith. Twice a year, the guests at the Norristown Mental Health Luncheons are treated to a special shopping spree.

The shop is a many hands and hearts ministry. Sharing the work is the only way it can exist. Administrative tasks are handled by a Management Team of seven area coordinators, while Daily Captains and Desk Persons take responsibility for the hours of operation on their assigned day.

Philadelphia@Work provides a six month program for long-term TANF (welfare) recipients that will help them transition to the workforce by placing them in subsidized transitional jobs at private, public, and non-profit work sites in the Philadelphia area. In addition to job placement for 25 hours a week, clients will receive additional classes and counseling for 10 hours a week. Assistance is available for transportation, clothing, and child care if necessary. Participants receive a $400 bonus for obtaining an unsubsidized job of 30 hours a week or more, a $200 bonus for maintaining 60 days of continuous employment, and a $200 bonus for maintaining 120 days of continuous employment.

Transitional Work Corporation (TWC) offers referred clients access training and benefits to help them enter or re-enter the work force to become more independent.

    Stroudsburg - Pathway Home 2 Program
    Providing career services, placement, and reentry services. After enrollment program details, including participant responsibilities, are reviewed as well as any barriers the participant has that need to be addressed such as securing identification (photo ID, driver's license, birth certificate, social security card., etc.). While the participant is still incarcerated (pre-release), job readiness services are provided along with career exploration and discussions of education and occupational skills training opportunities. Post-release we continue to coordinate education, training, and employment activities while also encouraging participants in their continuation with any, court ordered or voluntary, mental health services and/or drug and alcohol treatment. We also continue to provide supportive services such as bus passes, work clothing, etc. From the date of initial enrollment, we are in contact with participants for about two or more years.
