JFCS staff secures housing and provides furniture, food and clothing. Helps clients find work, navigate American workforce expectations and gain skills. We work with you to evaluate your job skills, interests and past work experience in order to identify areas of opportunity that might be a good match for you. Our employment counselors have built relationships with local employers that hire newcomers. We’ll provide translators if necessary, transportation to interviews, resume assistance and more. Some refugees may be connected to the JFCS Career Development Center for further training.

Emergency Assistance for financially struggling individuals and families in crisis seeking assistance for such things as food, clothing, rent, household utility expenses and similar miscellaneous living needs. Also offered at this location is The Salvation Army Bridging the Gap program - a juvenile prevention and/or intervention program that focuses on educating, motivating, and supporting youth and families. Candidates for this program are males and females, ages 12-17, who are having truancy, or behavioral issues. The program also introduces different educational, social, health and career resources available within the participantâs community.

Provides Case management to help individuals who struggle with substance abuse develop a sober and drug-free lifestyle, while working towards stability in housing, education, employment, transportation, child care, and healthcare. Services include: connecting individuals to treatment options; assisting with application processes such as Medical Assistance, Social Security, job applications and educational opportunities; legal advocacy; life skills coaching; referrals for transportation, childcare, food, clothing, and other basic needs.

Transitional home for non-violent women returning from prison. Provides a home, food, clothing, life skills training, parenting classes, AA and NA opportunities, budgeting class, assisting in finding employment, and appropriate educational opportunities. In addition, they work with residents on finding appropriate housing and provides services to the residents once they move out.

Works with families in crisis to provide basic needs to maintain families and aid in reunifying families. Considers assistance with home repairs required for health and safety. Provides diapers, clothing, hygiene, and food. Providing beds and bedding to children is also a major priority. Also assist with transportation for medical reasons.

In light of the effects of Hurricane Isaias on our region, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, along with neighboring counties that were affected by flooding, have been working with their Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster (VOAD) partners to establish the Hurricane Isaias Home Cleanup Hotline to support affected homeowners.

Every effort is made to put useful items in the right hands. Weekly Cancer Mission collections and cooperation with other thrift shops insure that things donated are not wasted. Varied and growing connections with local endeavors have fostered meaningful "in-kind" donations such as educational toys and games to a Childrenâs Learning Center in Norristown, a hat rack and wigs to the Wellness Place, blankets and coats to the homeless in Philadelphia, prom gowns to the Fairy Godmother Program, clothing and household items to folks whose home burned down and to clients in the programs of Ambler Interfaith. Twice a year, the guests at the Norristown Mental Health Luncheons are treated to a special shopping spree.

The shop is a many hands and hearts ministry. Sharing the work is the only way it can exist. Administrative tasks are handled by a Management Team of seven area coordinators, while Daily Captains and Desk Persons take responsibility for the hours of operation on their assigned day.

Philadelphia@Work provides a six month program for long-term TANF (welfare) recipients that will help them transition to the workforce by placing them in subsidized transitional jobs at private, public, and non-profit work sites in the Philadelphia area. In addition to job placement for 25 hours a week, clients will receive additional classes and counseling for 10 hours a week. Assistance is available for transportation, clothing, and child care if necessary. Participants receive a $400 bonus for obtaining an unsubsidized job of 30 hours a week or more, a $200 bonus for maintaining 60 days of continuous employment, and a $200 bonus for maintaining 120 days of continuous employment.

Transitional Work Corporation (TWC) offers referred clients access training and benefits to help them enter or re-enter the work force to become more independent.

TWC's Philadelphia@Work program is a transitional jobs program designed to provide Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients with the motivation

Providing career services, placement, and reentry services. After enrollment program details, including participant responsibilities, are reviewed as well as any barriers the participant has that need to be addressed such as securing identification (photo ID, driver's license, birth certificate, social security card., etc.). While the participant is still incarcerated (pre-release), job readiness services are provided along with career exploration and discussions of education and occupational skills training opportunities. Post-release we continue to coordinate education, training, and employment activities while also encouraging participants in their continuation with any, court ordered or voluntary, mental health services and/or drug and alcohol treatment. We also continue to provide supportive services such as bus passes, work clothing, etc. From the date of initial enrollment, we are in contact with participants for about two or more years.

Working with Aiding Our Neighbors ministry, St. Luke’s works to meet the needs of community members seeking assistance with annual activities such as Christmas baskets, Thanksgiving baskets and children's Easter Baskets. St. Luke's also collects, on a case by case basis, for individual needs of local families or individuals. Past items have included: clothing, furniture, small appliances, diapers, toys, etc.

Clothing Closet stocks a wide variety of infant, toddler, children, teen and adult sized "gently used" clothing. Also shoes, boots, coats and accessories (such as backpacks, purses, belts, etc.). Periodically, has professional clothing such as scrubs or work-type pants available for adults. And, when prom time or school programs come around, has a variety of "dress up" clothes for kids and teens.

Provides immediate emergency assistance to families affected by emergencies such as house fires, floods, hazardous material spills and natural and man-made disasters. Work side-by-side with firefighters and other emergency personnel to ensure victims are given immediate relief including food, lodging, clothing, shoes, medications, eyeglass replacement, mental health counseling and information and referral resources
